Sweden examines technology usage and societal integration

A recent Sifo survey conducted by Verian for LG Electronics reveals how Swedes seek technical assistance at home. The study shows that 63 percent of Swedes turn to adult family members for help, while 52 percent ask friends or acquaintances. Notably, 50 percent contact corporate support, and 12 percent—more than one in ten—request help from an ex-partner.

The data also highlights intergenerational technology transfer, with 33 percent of Swedes seeking help from children or teenagers, and 42 percent of those aged 50 to 64 doing the same. Among seniors aged 65 to 84, nearly 30 percent rely on grandchildren for technical support.

In a separate discussion regarding technological direction, Mats Brandt, CEO of Fujitsu Sweden, suggests that Sweden should look to Japan for inspiration on how to integrate technology into society. Brandt argues that while Swedish debate often focuses on AI competitiveness and speed, Japan prioritizes using technology as a strategic tool to solve structural societal issues, such as an aging population and labor shortages. He cites the Japanese business philosophy 'Sanpo Yoshi'—which seeks value for the customer, the company, and society simultaneously—as a model for practical technological application.
