Sweden experiences surge in well drilling demand due to low groundwater
Low groundwater levels caused by a lack of precipitation and insufficient snowmelt have led to a surge in demand for well drilling across Sweden. The demand is particularly high in southern Sweden, extending up to Dalarna and Gästrikland.
Mattias Gustafsson, CEO of the industry organization Borrföretagen, reports that some companies are experiencing three times their usual workload. The industry is currently prioritizing homeowners and agricultural needs over holiday homes. The cost for a new well and installation is estimated to be around 100,000 SEK.
In addition to water scarcity, increased awareness regarding water security and preparedness has contributed to the demand. The industry is also facing pressure from a rising interest in geothermal heating, which utilizes the same machinery and service providers.
