Sverigedemokraterna propose expanded repatriation grant
The Sweden Democrats (SD) have put forward a proposal to broaden the repatriation grant, which is currently set at 350,000 SEK and mainly targets people with residence permits after seeking asylum and their families. The new plan would also allow Swedish citizens who renounce their citizenship to receive the grant. The grant amount was raised from 10,000 SEK to 350,000 SEK at the start of the year; so far 617 applications have been submitted, 137 approved and 250 rejected. The proposal has met resistance from other parties. The Moderates have not taken a position, while the Christian Democrats and Liberals see no need for the change. The red‑green bloc rejects the idea outright, and the Center Party criticises the policy as “paying people to leave”.
