Sweden far-right declines as Cyprus reports fraud and interest rate shifts

In Sweden, the far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) experienced a decline in support during recent parliamentary elections, dropping from 20.5% in 2022 to 17.6%. This trend contrasts with the rise of far-right movements across much of Europe. Party leader Jimmie Åkesson acknowledged the loss, which saw the party fall to second place behind the moderate right.

In Cyprus, the Central Bank reported that average household deposit interest rates fell to 1.27% in July, while mortgage rates for home purchases rose to 3.24%. Both figures remain lower than the Eurozone averages.

Law enforcement in Limassol, Cyprus, is investigating a €105,000 fraud case involving a local company. The company was deceived by a fraudulent email that appeared to be from an overseas supplier, leading them to transfer funds to an incorrect bank account.

Additionally, two doctors have been detained in Cyprus following lengthy interrogations regarding the death of Giorgos Mazonakis. One defendant denied charges of manslaughter with intent, claiming no premeditated intention or foresight regarding the death. Police have also recovered deleted digital evidence from a doctor's mobile device.
