Sweden fitness trends show rising gym attendance and etiquette concerns

A recent survey by Verian, commissioned by Lindahls, indicates that 67 percent of Swedes now exercise on a weekly or daily basis, an increase from 59 percent in 2024. As gym attendance rises, social friction regarding gym etiquette has become more prominent.

The study identifies loud telephone conversations as the primary grievance, affecting 70 percent of respondents. Other significant irritants include users remaining on machines to scroll through mobile phones (49 percent), failing to wipe down equipment after use (57 percent), and reserving multiple sets of weights or dumbbells simultaneously (46 percent). Additionally, 25 percent of respondents expressed discomfort with receiving unsolicited training advice from strangers.

In related health discussions, physiotherapist Sara Königsson has provided guidance on reintegrating exercise routines after summer breaks, emphasizing the importance of avoiding overexertion and noting that two sessions per week can be effective for maintaining fitness.
