Sweden introduces property-proximate waste collection for villas
Starting in mid-September, property-proximate waste collection (FNI) will begin for permanent residents in villas. This initiative involves delivering four separate bins to households for sorting residual waste, food waste, paper/cardboard packaging, and plastic packaging.
The rollout follows a government mandate requiring all municipalities to implement property-proximate collection of packaging by January 1, 2027. The goal of the program is to increase recycling rates, reduce climate impact, and simplify the sorting process for households. While the new bins will be distributed this autumn, official emptying services for most categories are scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027, though food waste collection may begin sooner if not already in place. Existing recycling stations will remain available for various materials.
