Sweden observes national preparedness week

Sweden is observing Beredskapsveckan (Preparedness Week), a national initiative coordinated by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency. The theme for this year is ‘You are part of the total defense,’ emphasizing the responsibility of citizens to contribute to societal stability during crises or war.

In Krokom, activities scheduled between September 21 and 27 include lectures on civil preparedness and the global situation, bingo games, and information sessions hosted by the Volunteer Resource Group (FRG). Local libraries in Ås, Föllinge, and Änge are providing brochures and resources on how to prepare for seven days of self-sufficiency.

In Älmhult, preparedness coordinator Hanna Björkman highlights the importance of household readiness to reduce pressure on public resources during events like power outages or storms. Residents are encouraged to maintain food supplies that do not require electricity or water, such as dry goods and canned items, to ensure they can manage for at least two weeks.
