World Suicide Prevention Day marked by ceremonies in Sweden and Norway

September 10 marks World Suicide Prevention Day, prompting various commemorative events and awareness campaigns across Scandinavia to address mental health and honor those lost to suicide.

In Sweden, Region Örebro län is launching a month-long campaign titled ‘A Month for Life,’ featuring a charity run and a flower ceremony in Örebro. In Landskrona, a light manifestation will be held at Sofia Albertina Church to encourage open dialogue and community support.

In Norway, the day is marked by the theme ‘Start the conversation – together.’ In Tromsø, the municipality has organized lectures, concerts, and light-lighting ceremonies at the Tromsø Cathedral. National statistics highlight the severity of the issue, noting that suicide remains a major public health challenge, with significant impact on families and survivors.
