Sweden political debate intensifies over onshore wind power expansion

Swedish political debate is intensifying regarding the expansion of onshore wind power. Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson has stated that the country does not require more land-based wind power.

In Kalmar County, members of the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) have voiced opposition to large-scale wind power projects. They argue against meeting specific numerical targets for wind turbines, such as a previous strategy suggesting 69 new units for the region, if it results in the industrialization of the landscape and negatively impacts the living environment for local residents. The party emphasizes that while contributing to a fossil-free future is necessary, it should not come at the expense of rural areas.
