Skellefteå villas demolished for Norrbotniabanan railway
Trafikverket has begun demolishing 23 villas in Skellefteå to make way for the Norrbotniabanan railway project. The construction is part of a larger plan to connect Umeå and Skellefteå, with completion targeted for 2035.
In an unusual move for projects of this scale, the agency is prioritizing the recycling and reuse of building materials. Components such as kitchens, floors, windows, doors, and entire buildings are being salvaged for resale. Project manager David Nilsson noted that interest from buyers has exceeded expectations, though the process of dismantling structures before demolition takes more time.
In total, 39 properties are scheduled to be demolished between Gumboda and Skellefteå by 2027 as part of the railway expansion.
