Sweden records highest spring storm damage since 1975

Sweden has experienced its worst spring for storm-related property damage in 50 years. According to a compilation by LF Fastighetsförmedling, 10,732 villas and holiday homes reported storm damage during the second quarter (March–May) of this year.

This figure is the highest recorded for the second quarter since measurements began in 1975. The surge is attributed to Storm Dave, which heavily impacted the west coast during the Easter weekend. Unlike typical severe storms that occur in winter, this event caused significant damage during the spring months.

Reported damages include loosened roof tiles or metal sheeting, falling trees hitting buildings, and flying garden furniture breaking windows. Experts note an increasing trend in both the frequency and the total insurance amounts for natural disasters, highlighting the long-term impact of climate change on property safety.
