Sweden sees growth in housing prices and hotel tourism
Sweden's housing market saw a significant rise in September, with overall prices increasing by 1.6 percent. According to the SBAB Booli Housing Price Index, house prices rose by 1.8 percent and apartment prices by 1.3 percent. This growth exceeded typical September trends, despite rising mortgage rates and expectations of higher interest rates. Since the beginning of the year, housing prices have increased by a total of 6.5 percent, with house prices outperforming apartments.
Simultaneously, the Swedish hospitality sector is experiencing growth. International overnight stays in Sweden increased by 8.9 percent during the twelve-month period ending in July 2026. A report from Cushman & Wakefield indicates that hotel revenue per available room (RevPAR) rose by 7.8 percent, driven primarily by higher room prices rather than increased occupancy.
Growth in the hotel market is being fueled by diverse factors, including international tourism, business travel, and industrial investments in northern Sweden. Increased demand is also noted in regions such as Kiruna, Luleå, and Karlskrona due to the green transition and increased defense spending.
