Sweden sees rapid rise in AI adoption among population
The 'Svenskarna och Internet 2026' report by Internetstiftelsen highlights an explosive increase in artificial intelligence usage among the Swedish population. According to the data, over 60 percent of Swedes now use AI services such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini, up from 40 percent the previous year. Nearly 20 percent of users interact with these services on a daily basis.
While 96 percent of the population uses the internet and 94 percent utilize e-identification services like Bank-id, the report notes concerns regarding digital exclusion for those unable to navigate these systems.
Beyond statistics, the integration of generative AI is impacting social dynamics and interpersonal relationships. Users report varying experiences, ranging from using AI as a convenient knowledge source to facing social friction, such as individuals preferring AI interaction over human conversation or using AI-generated responses in social forums, which some claim diminishes authentic human connection.
