Sweden sees surge in early election voting participation

Early voting for the 2026 SKR elections in Sweden is seeing significantly higher participation compared to the 2022 election cycle. Nationally, approximately 2.7 million early votes have been registered, representing a 25 percent increase over the same period in the previous election.

In Västmanland County, early voting has reached nearly one-third of eligible voters, a 22 percent increase from 2022. Specific municipalities such as Arboga and Fagersta report turnout rates exceeding 35 percent. In Arboga, the number of early votes is 29 percent higher than at the same stage in 2022, potentially setting a record since 2006.

In Älvdalen Municipality, officials reported a registration error involving early votes. The Swedish Election Authority and local municipalities identified and corrected the mistake immediately, ensuring it did not impact voting eligibility or the election process. Local officials noted high interest among younger voters in the region.
