Sweden sees surge in youth birdwatching membership

BirdLife Sweden reports that the number of young members more than doubled between 2020 and 2024, rising from 149 to 411. Youth committee member Maya Eriksson said the growth is "great fun to see" and noted that birdwatching camps are filling up quickly.

Local media highlighted the trend, quoting a young enthusiast who called the hobby "super‑cool" and offering tips on birdwatching spots, equipment and apps such as Merlin Bird ID.
