Sweden: Socialdemokraterna proposes major dental care reform

The Socialdemokraterna party has proposed a major welfare reform in Sweden aimed at restructuring dental care. Under the proposed plan, dental treatments would be entirely free for young people, while adults would only be responsible for 10 percent of the costs.

Currently, dental care is not covered by the same high-cost protection as general healthcare in Sweden, which has led to dental health becoming a class marker. Low-income individuals often struggle to afford necessary treatments, resulting in poor oral health. The reform has gained interest from other political parties, including Vänsterpartiet and Sverigedemokraterna, though political tensions remain regarding the implementation and origin of the proposal.
