Sweden textile consumption reaches record levels
Textile consumption in Sweden has reached record levels, with statistics from Naturvårdsverket indicating that consumption reached 15.2 kg per person in 2025. This trend poses significant environmental challenges.
A survey conducted by Naturskyddsföreningen in collaboration with Verian reveals that many consumers purchase clothing they intend to wear infrequently. One in five people reported buying items in the last three months that they already suspected they would not wear often. Nearly 40 percent of respondents purchase new garments at least once every three months.
The study also noted a correlation between garment price and the willingness to repair items. While only 28 percent of respondents believed they would repair a sweater costing 149 SEK, that figure rose to 61 percent for a sweater costing 1,499 SEK.
