Sweden tourism sees growth driven by international visitors
Sweden experienced a significant surge in tourism during the summer months, driven largely by an increase in international visitors. According to preliminary data from Tillväxtverket, camping stays saw a 3.5 percent increase in overnight stays between January and July compared to the previous year, with foreign guests accounting for a 4.9 percent rise.
Key international markets for camping include Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands. Norway remains the largest market with over 1.51 million overnight stays, while the Netherlands saw the highest percentage growth among the top three markets at 8.2 percent.
The hotel sector also reported record-breaking performance. During the June-August period, occupied hotel rooms increased by 4 percent, while log revenues rose by 12 percent. This revenue growth was supported by a 9 percent increase in average prices. International hotel stays grew by 14 percent over the summer, with notable increases from American tourists (18 percent) and Spanish tourists (65 percent in July). Factors such as improved economic conditions, currency fluctuations, and lower fuel costs are cited as contributors to this growth.
