Earlier in the tournament, Sweden faced Japan in the last group‑stage round in Dallas. Japan took the lead in the 56th minute through Daizen Maeda, but Sweden equalised six minutes later when Anthony Elanga scored. The 1‑1 draw left Japan second and Sweden third in Group F, allowing both teams to advance to the knockout stage.
