Sweden updates air strategy to include deep strikes against Russia

Sweden is revising its aerial warfare strategy to include offensive capabilities aimed at deep targets within Russian territory in the event of an attack. Colonel Carl Bergqvist, head of the Swedish Air Force Air Warfare Centre, stated that the new concept seeks to deter aggression by ensuring a conflict would not be limited to Swedish territory. To support this, Sweden plans to enhance its Gripen fighter jets' long-range capabilities by integrating Taurus missiles, which have a range exceeding 500 kilometers, with future goals of acquiring missiles with ranges up to 2,000 kilometers.

Simultaneously, NATO intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations have intensified over the Baltic region, specifically focusing on the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. A joint mission involving British, American, and Swedish aircraft—including the RAF RC-135W Rivet Joint, the US Army's ARTEMIS II, and the Swedish S102B Korpen—has been active in the area. These operations aim to monitor Russian activity as Baltic states Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia prepare for potential security threats.
