Sweden urges national data‑center strategy and digital sovereignty focus

Industry leaders Svante Axelsson, national coordinator for Fossilfritt Sverige, and Ann Wingård, managing director of the Swedish Datacenter Industry Association, argue that Sweden can become a European leader in digital infrastructure but needs a clear national data‑center strategy, long‑term rules and coordinated leadership.

At Almedalsveckan, Sweden’s political and business elite discussed related digital‑policy challenges, including how Europe can build digital sovereignty without losing competitiveness, the role of AI in strengthening Nordic industry, and the need for digital leadership and resilient regulation. Speakers included officials from the Swedish Digital Government Agency, AI Sweden, the Danish embassy, and industry representatives.
