Sweden weather alert: SMHI issues yellow snow warning

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and slush expected on Thursday, October 8. The warning covers northern Värmland, Dalarna west of Siljan, and southern Jämtland County.

A low-pressure system moving from the British Isles is expected to bring rain that will transition into snow or wet snow during the morning and forenoon. While ground temperatures remain relatively high, which may cause much of the precipitation to turn into slush, SMHI warns of potential hazards including slippery roads, reduced visibility, and traffic delays.

In areas where temperatures hover near zero, there is also a risk of disruptions to electricity and telecommunications networks, particularly where lines are above ground. Authorities advise travelers to allow extra time for journeys and to adjust speeds according to road conditions and visibility. Some regions, such as Hundfjället, may experience wind gusts up to 18 meters per second alongside heavy precipitation.
