Sweden wins gold at European Orienteering Championships
Sweden emerged as the top nation at the European Orienteering Championships in Lithuania, securing multiple medals across various disciplines.
The women’s relay team, consisting of Hanna Lundberg, Sanna Fasth, and Tove Alexandersson, won the gold medal. Despite Lundberg encountering stinging nettles on the first leg and Alexandersson suffering a heavy fall during the final stretch, the team maintained their lead to finish 49 seconds ahead of Switzerland.
In individual competition, Hanna Lundberg secured her first individual European Championship gold in the middle distance event, finishing 16 seconds ahead of Norway’s Pia Young Vik. Anton Johansson earned the silver medal in the same event.
The Swedish men’s second relay team also achieved success, claiming a bronze medal in a closely contested race, finishing just seven seconds behind the gold-winning Swiss team.
