Swedish Push for Organic Farming and Wild Boar Meat Gains Momentum

Regional authorities in Örebro County have set a target to raise the share of organically farmed land to at least 25 % by 2030 and to ensure 60 % of public‑sector meals are sourced from organic producers, according to KRAV. Advocates argue that organic agriculture supports biodiversity, noting studies that show 30 % more species overall and 50 % more pollinators on organic farms compared with conventional ones.

At the same time, the Jägareförbundet Gävleborg promotes wild boar meat as a sustainable, locally produced protein source. The association highlights the animal’s high nutritional value and low environmental footprint, urging public institutions such as schools, hospitals and care homes to incorporate wild boar into their catering to reduce reliance on imported feed and lower greenhouse‑gas emissions. Both initiatives are presented as ways to strengthen Sweden’s food security and resilience amid climate challenges.
