Swedish Democrats Voters Doubt Climate Link to Heat Records

A new survey by Indikator shows that a majority of voters for the Sweden Democrats (SD) do not believe that recent heat records and extensive forest fires in Europe are caused by climate change. Only 9 % of SD supporters think the climate impact is large, compared with 96 % of voters for the red‑green bloc. Party leader Jimmie Åkesson said the extreme weather is not new and emphasized that the party’s stance reflects its broader view on Sweden’s role in global climate efforts. Sociologist Daniel Lindvall of Uppsala University noted that the SD’s distinct position stems from a political community that views climate issues as exaggerated, while voters for the governing parties show strong consensus on the climate‑change link.
