Sweden's startup ecosystem sees rising funding and new tech wave

Sweden has emerged as a prominent global technology hub, driven by a cultural shift where entrepreneurship is increasingly viewed as a desirable career path. While the country has long hosted major companies like Spotify and Klarna, a new wave of startups, including legal AI firm Legora and vibe-coding developer Lovable, is contributing to the ecosystem's growth.

According to Dealroom data, the Swedish startup ecosystem has raised $2.8 billion in funding this year and is projected to reach at least $5 billion by year-end. This follows $3.2 billion raised last year. While these figures are significant, they have not yet reached the 2021 record of $8.5 billion.

Sophia Bendz, a general partner at Cherry Ventures, notes that the current generation of entrepreneurs is benefiting from the mentorship and resources of first-generation founders. Some successful entrepreneurs are even returning to the scene as repeat founders, such as Spotify founder Daniel Ek, who also founded Neko Health. Other notable companies in the ecosystem include the autonomous freight developer Einride.
