Swedish authorities criticized for misleading climate data in citizenship tests
Swedish authorities, specifically Skolverket and the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), are facing criticism for failing to consult climate experts when developing knowledge material for the new citizenship test.
Mattias Goldmann, CEO of the 2030 Secretariat, has highlighted that the information provided in the material is misleading and imprecise regarding Swedish climate policy. He noted that the material inaccurately describes net-zero goals and the role of forests in carbon sequestration, suggesting the descriptions align more with the Tidö government's rhetoric than with legal requirements.
While Goldmann questioned whether the agencies received instructions to frame the information in a way that obscures the government's climate performance, UHR has denied these claims, stating that test designers were involved in the process.
