Swedish candidate cites Queen Kristina’s 1600‑century warning

Olof Lindqvist, a parliamentary candidate for Sweden’s Center Party, submitted an op‑ed to the regional newspapers Kristianstadsbladet and Norra Skåne on 1 August 2026. In the letter he quotes Queen Kristina of the 1600s – “Cruelty has its root in fear” – and argues that fear underlies many harmful decisions and political discourse.

Lindqvist contends that fear of failure, inadequacy and societal collapse drives manipulation and negative debate, urging politicians, influencers and the public to focus on positive visions for the future and to create a more secure, hopeful society.
