Swedish Center Party moves toward left‑block coalition ahead of 2026 election

National Center Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist announced that the party will abandon the centre‑right alliance and look to the Social Democrats as its most likely governing partner after the 2026 election. She cited the governing coalition’s cooperation with the Sweden Democrats as a disqualifier for Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and ruled out any coalition that includes the Left Party. The announcement coincided with a five‑million‑kronor donation from Mullvad founder to the Örebro‑based party.

Locally, Center Party municipal councillor Johan Krogh in Nacka emphasised continued growth, climate‑positive development and school reforms such as sibling priority. Krogh said the party will run as an independent force in the municipal election, willing to cooperate with both the Moderates and the Social Democrats, and expressed openness to taking municipal leadership if election results allow.
