Swedish consumers show hesitation toward electric vehicles

Recent surveys indicate significant hesitation among Swedish consumers regarding the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). According to a study by Demoskop for Transportföretagen, purchase price and driving range remain the primary obstacles for potential buyers. The data reveals a divide based on income, geography, and political affiliation; for instance, skepticism is highest in regions like Norrbotten and Gotland, while interest is higher among those with monthly incomes exceeding 58,000 SEK.

Furthermore, a Sifo survey commissioned by Kvdbil highlights a lack of trust in Chinese EV manufacturers among Swedish buyers. While Chinese brands like Zeekr and Xpeng are gaining market presence, only 18 percent of respondents expressed high or moderate confidence in Chinese brands. In contrast, 73 percent of respondents expressed trust in European manufacturers such as Volvo, BMW, and Volkswagen. American brands like Tesla and Ford also saw lower confidence levels at 28 percent.
