Swedish court issues rulings in separate criminal cases

A man in his 50s in the Stockholm area has been convicted of two counts of threatening a public official. The conviction follows a series of threatening emails sent to a social worker between July 2024 and March 2025. The threats, which stemmed from the man's dissatisfaction with decisions regarding his financial assistance, included messages targeting the official's family and references to applying laws from the Amazon. Although the defendant claimed others may have helped him write the emails, the court found the evidence sufficient to prove he sent them.

In a separate case, an 18-year-old man from Norrtälje has been sentenced for assault following an incident in Stockholm's Kungsträdgården. The defendant was originally charged with aggravated assault after a confrontation with another man left the victim unconscious and bleeding. However, the district court ruled the incident consisted of two shorter sequences and noted provocation from the victim as a mitigating factor. The court determined that while some actions fell under self-defense, the blows and kicks delivered while the victim was on the ground constituted assault of a normal degree. The 18-year-old was sentenced to one month in prison, which is considered served due to prior detention, and ordered to pay 35,715 SEK in damages.
