Swedish cross-country skiing team trapped in gondola due to high winds
Members of the Swedish national cross-country skiing team experienced a traumatic incident while training at the Val Senales glacier in South Tyrol, Italy. On Monday, October 26, strong wind gusts caused the gondola to sway violently during a descent.
Athletes Maja Dahlqvist and Märta Rosenberg described the experience as terrifying. Rosenberg noted that the cabin may have been particularly susceptible to the wind because it was lightly occupied at the time. Dahlqvist, an Olympic champion, stated it was the worst experience she has ever had on a glacier.
While the team eventually reached the valley station safely, the incident has left several athletes shaken. Dahlqvist indicated that the trauma might affect her ability to continue the training camp at high altitudes.
