Swedish defender Malcolm Jeng near move to FC Groningen
Malcolm Jeng, a 21‑year‑old Swedish centre‑back, is set to join Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen on loan from French club Stade de Reims, with an option for a permanent transfer. The move follows a season‑long injury lay‑off after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in his sole appearance for Feyenoord, ending his campaign after one match.
FC Groningen director Frank van Mosselveld expressed cautious optimism, saying, “Ik heb deze periode wel vaker gedacht dat we een speler binnen hadden, dus ik hou nog even een slag om de arm.” Technical director Mo Allach noted that the club’s defensive roster is almost complete, pending Jeng’s medical clearance. Stade de Reims, who paid just under €3 million for Jeng two years ago, list his market value at around €2 million.
If the loan proceeds, Groningen will have the right to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season, strengthening their back line after the loss of the defender to injury.
