Swedish Equestrian Federation seeks fairer access to sports
Maria Guggenberger, Secretary General of the Swedish Equestrian Federation (SvRF), has addressed the declining membership numbers in equestrian sports, citing changing leisure habits and economic challenges. She emphasized the need to promote equestrianism as more than just a sport, highlighting its role in teaching responsibility, community, and lifelong learning.
Guggenberger argued that for the sport to remain accessible and not become a matter of social class, there must be fairer conditions and increased support for facilities. She called on municipalities to increase their support for facility maintenance to help keep costs down for clubs. Additionally, she noted the importance of horse welfare in maintaining public trust and suggested that equestrianism should be viewed as a societal resource.
