Swedish experts call for better climate reporting and cooperative business models

Ahead of upcoming elections in Sweden, various experts and organizations are calling for increased focus on long-term societal stability and informed democratic decision-making.

Johan Rockström of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, alongside 58 other researchers, has advocated for strengthened climate monitoring in the media. The group argues that news outlets must improve climate journalism to ensure citizens have the necessary information to understand how political decisions impact Sweden’s ability to manage environmental challenges. They suggest integrating climate perspectives into economic and political reporting and hiring more specialist reporters.

Separately, leaders from Svensk Kooperation, including Anders Dahlquist-Sjöberg and Paul Christensson, are promoting cooperative business models as a way to build a more robust Sweden. They argue that democratically governed, locally anchored cooperatives can help address geopolitical instability, strengthen local economies, and support the climate transition.
