Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority warns of AI‑driven investment scams targeting small savers
Finansinspektionen (FI) has issued a warning about a wave of fraudsters using artificial‑intelligence hype to lure small savers. The authority identified 66 operators, often under names such as “Global BR Finance” or “Liberty Trust Finance”, that promise rapid, large returns through AI‑driven trading platforms or AI‑based products. The schemes typically attract victims via social‑media posts and chat groups, show fabricated account growth, then disappear when investors try to withdraw funds. FI advises consumers to verify that any provider is listed in the agency’s corporate register and, if foreign, to check the regulator in the provider’s home country.
In a related letter, a Liberal Party delegate highlighted a rise in telephone‑based scams that target elderly people’s life savings. The writer called for banks to implement stronger safeguards against large transfers, for telecom firms to block fraudulent numbers, and for tighter restrictions on public access to personal data. Both warnings underscore growing concerns about financial fraud affecting vulnerable Swedish citizens.
