Swedish firms doubt ability to handle major digital crises, survey shows

A new survey commissioned by Knowit and conducted by Verian interviewed 206 senior decision‑makers in Sweden's public and private sectors. Only 45 % of private‑sector companies say they are confident they could manage a large digital incident, while 57 % of public‑sector organisations feel assured. Despite the low confidence, digital resilience is a top priority for most respondents – 92 % of public‑sector leaders and 53 % of private‑sector leaders list it as a key concern.

The study also highlights gaps in strategy and supplier risk awareness. While 89 % of public entities report having a clear digital resilience strategy, only 65 % of private firms do so. Around two‑thirds of private companies (65 %) say supplier dependencies weaken their resilience, yet a third (34 %) are unsure about their suppliers' robustness. Similar concerns appear in the public sector, with 46 % noting negative effects from supplier reliance. Respondents stress equal importance of technology investments and competence development to improve security posture.
