Swedish Football Association sees lower profits despite record FIFA prize pools
The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) reports that despite record-high prize pools for the men's World Cup, the association's actual profit from the tournament will be lower than in previous years. While FIFA increased the total prize pool to approximately 871 million dollars to mitigate concerns over high taxation, the Swedish team's earnings are expected to land around 25 million SEK.
Niclas Carlnén, the association's general secretary, noted that high costs and mandatory taxes in the United States have impacted the final surplus. Simon Åström, the association's chairman, criticized FIFA's financial management, stating that the organization holds an “unreasonably large amount of money” in reserves compared to the funds distributed to national associations.
