Swedish Government Sets Zero‑Vision Goal to End Child Violence

Swedish Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall announced a new "zero‑vision" policy aimed at eliminating violence against children. The government noted that, on average, nearly five children die each year in Sweden, often at the hands of their own parents.

The plan focuses on strengthening the role of schools and social services in detecting and preventing abuse. New legislation, dubbed "lex Tintin" after an eight‑year‑old murder victim, will allow information sharing between schools and social services and halt forced parental visits. The zero‑vision target will be reviewed every five years to assess progress.

A 2022 study by the Stiftelsen Allmänna Barnhuset found that 29 % of children reported having experienced some form of parental violence, underscoring the need for the new measures.
