Swedish grocery stores advance to Egg Department of the Year finals

Three Swedish grocery stores have been named finalists in the 2026 Egg Department of the Year competition. The regional winners are ICA Malmborgs Erikslust in Malmö, ICA Kvantum Sickla, and ICA Maxi Luleå. The competition evaluates how retailers manage the category through assortment, product exposure, and customer information to facilitate conscious consumer choices.

Marie Lönneskog Hogstadius of Svenska Ägg noted that increasing competition in this category helps highlight Swedish eggs, providing value to both retailers and consumers. The final winner will be announced at the Dagligvarugalan in Stockholm on November 12.

In a related trend regarding local consumption, ICA Maxi Flygstaden in Halmstad has actively promoted Swedish and locally produced goods. The store hosted a mini-market with various suppliers to support the ‘Från Sverige’ (From Sweden) initiative. According to ICA Group reports, the share of Swedish-labeled food sales increased from 20.7 to 21.3 percent, reflecting a growing consumer demand for domestic products.
