Swedish Health Care Introduces Elder Care Reforms Amid Medical Oversight Critique

Swedish municipal elder‑care services announced a series of improvements, including new leadership structures, updated delegation rules, efforts to end a culture of silence, better working conditions, relocation of special housing units closer to families, a reduction in temporary nurses, deployment of 16 medication robots, introduction of chilled meals for home‑care, background checks for new hires, updated theft protocols and language‑skill initiatives.

Separately, the Swedish Inspection for Health and Social Care (IVO) criticised an unlicensed doctor for failing to recognise lung‑cancer signs in a patient, noting that earlier X‑ray findings were missed and the physician should have consulted a licensed colleague. IVO also highlighted inadequate supervision by the health provider in the case and in a separate incident where a woman suffered a stroke after being sent home from a health centre.
