Swedish Lapland offers wilderness and Sámi culture

Swedish Lapland, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Sápmi, provides diverse wilderness experiences ranging from mountain hiking and rock climbing to observing the Northern Lights. The region is the traditional homeland of the indigenous Sámi people, whose culture and reindeer herding traditions remain central to the area.

Sarek National Park, established in 1909, is the largest and oldest national park in the region, characterized by mountainous terrain and numerous glaciers. The area is home to diverse wildlife, including moose, lynx, wolverines, and the endangered Arctic fox.

While the remote northern region can be expensive, travelers can manage costs by utilizing hostels, Airbnb rentals with kitchens, and public transportation between towns such as Kiruna, Abisko, and Jukkasjärvi.
