Swedish libraries host ‘Children's Choice’ book character votes

Several libraries in Sweden, including locations in Stockholm and Malmö, have organized ‘Barnens val’ (Children's Choice), an initiative where children vote for their favorite book characters.

At the Rosengårds Library in Malmö, children aged 4 to 12 participated in the vote, which concluded on September 12. Participants chose from ten different characters, such as Findus, Sambakungen, or Lilla Al-Fadji. The program aims to encourage reading and provide a concrete way for children to learn about democracy and the importance of their voices. To simulate a real election, children used voting cards and entered voting booths.

While this concept is relatively new to Sweden, it has been established in Denmark since 2015 at the Ballerup Library.
