Swedish volunteer arrested in Russia
A Swedish man in his 30s, reported to have fought as a volunteer for Ukraine, has been arrested by Russian security services.
Russian authorities allege the man illegally crossed the border and attempted to enlist in the Russian armed forces under a cover to commit sabotage and acts of terrorism against military facilities. Video footage reviewed by SVT shows the man describing his combat preparations, such as hiking with heavy gear.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs have stated they are investigating the situation after becoming aware of the media reports. While the exact number of Swedish citizens fighting for Ukraine is unknown, previous estimates have ranged from one hundred to six hundred individuals.
