Sweden indicts man for 2005 Brattås double murder

A 45-year-old man has been indicted for the 2005 double murder of Tor Öberg and Gerd Wiklund in Brattås, Sweden. The breakthrough in this cold case came through DNA-based genealogical research, a method that allows investigators to link crime scene DNA to suspects via family databases.

Senior prosecutor Hanna Flordal stated that "the evidence in the case is good" following the conclusion of the investigation. The suspect, who has been in custody since this spring, denies the charges. The victims, two retirees, were subjected to severe violence to the head during the incident.

In a separate investigation in the Stockholm archipelago, a 57-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murdering his 56-year-old girlfriend at her summer residence in Värmdö. The suspect was apprehended after a local resident discovered a hidden green kayak in a wooded area, which led police to him. The suspect has admitted to being at the scene at the time of the crime but has not provided further details regarding the motive or circumstances.
