Swedish MP Mohamed Ali faces scrutiny over parliamentary absence and business dealings
Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, a Member of Parliament for the Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) in Sweden, is facing multiple controversies regarding his parliamentary duties and business ventures.
Ali has been absent from the Riksdag since its opening in September. While the Left Party has maintained that he will not vacate his seat, his absence has been attributed to sick leave following a denied request for leave. Simultaneously, a police investigation is underway regarding suspected improper influence during voting, though no formal charges have been filed against him at this stage. Ali has also reported receiving threatening messages online.
In addition to parliamentary concerns, Ali’s business partner, Agneta Nyvall, has moved to dissolve their joint company, Afritech Growth. The partnership involved a planned $87 million development project in Somalia focused on digitalization and environmental efforts. Nyvall has accused Ali of lacking realism and honesty, stating she has been unable to reach him for a month. She further alleged that she covered his travel expenses to Somalia and that promised reimbursements for share capital have not been fulfilled. Furthermore, institutions such as Stockholm University and Vinnova have stated they have no documented contact with Ali regarding the project, despite his claims to the contrary.
