Swedish Parliament denies leave for MP Mohamed Abdukardir Ali

The Swedish Parliament has denied a leave of absence request from Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, a newly elected Member of Parliament for the Left Party (Vänsterpartiet). The denial comes amid a police investigation into suspected election fraud related to his campaign in Borlänge, specifically concerning personal votes. While Ali has not been officially named as a suspect in a crime, he has denied media reports claiming he delayed police questioning.

Separately, scrutiny regarding Ali’s acquisition of Swedish citizenship has led to a formal complaint filed with the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO) against the Swedish Migration Agency. The complaint, initiated by a private citizen following investigative reports, calls for a review of the agency’s background checks and handling processes. The investigation into his citizenship has raised questions regarding his financial history and the rigor of the checks performed prior to his naturalization.
