Swedish Parliament opens new session with royal address

The Swedish Parliament (Riksdagen) has commenced its new working year with the traditional Riksmötet ceremony in Stockholm. The event included a procession to Storkyrkan and the Riksdag building, attended by the Royal Family and 349 politicians.

During his address to the parliament, King Carl XVI Gustaf called for increased cooperation and mutual respect among political representatives. He urged members to listen to one another even when they disagree and to seek common solutions. His remarks were noted in the context of recent political friction and the ongoing difficulty in forming a new government.

Speaker of the Parliament Andreas Norlén is currently leading efforts to facilitate government formation. This follows a failed attempt by Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson to establish a new administration.
