Swedish Police face civilian staff shortages due to wage issues

The Swedish Police Authority is facing challenges in retaining civilian employees due to stagnant wages and unvalued expertise. A survey conducted by Seko Polisen reveals that many civilian staff members feel their increased responsibilities and qualifications are not reflected in their pay.

Approximately 80 percent of those who changed roles or functions within the police in the last two years did not receive a salary increase. This has led to a trend where employees feel they must leave the agency to secure higher pay before returning. Internal surveys from the Police Authority confirm that salary, leadership, and a lack of recognition for competence are the primary reasons for staff departures, resulting in significant recruitment and training costs for taxpayers.
