Swedish police warn of carbon monoxide risks in tents

Swedish police have issued a warning regarding the dangers of using stoves or outdoor kitchens inside small spaces such as tents and shelters following several fatalities caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

In Härjedalen, two men were found dead in a tent during a fishing trip after succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators noted that a small stove was present in the tent, though its chimney had been detached and left lying outside.

This follows a previous investigation into a woman who died in a shelter in Svalåtjärnsstugan. The National Forensic Centre (NFC) concluded that the use of a liquid fuel outdoor kitchen for heating or cooking indoors likely caused the poisoning. Consequently, authorities are urging increased caution when using heating elements in confined outdoor spaces.
